Vacation State of Mind (Part Two): 10 Domestic Locations Where We Want to Travel Next

In our last blog post, we covered the five international locations where we want to travel next. Because we believe that post-COVID travelers will ease themselves back in with domestic travel first, we also have our sights set on U.S.-based travel. Except this time we can’t narrow it down to just five locations! Below we’ve included a variety of 10 cities, towns, wine country, and beaches throughout the United States that would make for the perfect retreat.

Palm Springs, California

Our first domestic Fit & Fly retreat was held in 2019 at the Avalon Hotel and Bungalows in Palm Springs. We chose Palm Springs for a variety of reasons: an average of 350 sunny days per year, a variety of darling boutique hotels, the close proximity to Joshua Tree National Park, and the area’s wellness and healing vibe. Palm Springs may not only be our first domestic retreat… it may also be our second!

Napa Valley, California

When we think of a domestic location for a girls trip, one of our first thoughts is wine country, especially Napa Valley. With its close proximity to San Francisco, Napa makes for the perfect city-country getaway. We love the idea of renting a private home or staying at a boutique hotel, daily workouts (including biking to wineries!), an early morning hot air balloon ride, amazing meals… Can we just secure a reservation at The French Laundry while we’re at it?

The Hamptons, New York

Call us bougie (guilty!), but the Hamptons has been high on our list for a domestic retreat. Just a short drive from New York City, we love the idea of tacking on a day or two in the city. The Hamptons has beautiful homes, adorable shops, chic restaurants, and just a general relaxed pool party vibe. We love the idea of incorporating a visit to Channing Daughters Winery (owned by the family of our Uruguayan/American yoga instructor in Jose Ignacio) for yoga overlooking the vineyards followed by a wine tasting.

Miami

Beautiful beaches (and beach workouts). Stylish hotels (check out Faena!). Nightlife. Browsing art galleries and shops in the Design District. Sipping Cuban coffee in Little Havana. Miami feels like the perfect combination of city + beach + fitness + cultural retreat. And of all of our locations on this list, Miami is the closest one to having a similar flair of our international retreats.

Nashville

Fit & Fly Co-Founder Rebecca was born and raised in Tennessee. Having lived in Nashville several years ago, she’s watched it morph from a country music mecca to a city full of chic restaurants, shopping, and hotels (we see you Thompson Hotel!). It’s the perfect time to show you why Nashville has exploded in popularity… and Rebecca can guide you through the finer points of Southern cuisine, Southern hospitality, and proper use of the word y’all.

Charleston, South Carolina

Nashville aside, Rebecca’s other favorite Southern city is Charleston, South Carolina. There is a good reason why retreat guests regularly request this location: beautiful Rainbow Row, Lowcountry beaches, shopping, amazing food…. And just outside of Charleston, we’re obsessed with the idea of staying at Bolt Farm luxury treehouses – maybe as an option to extend after the retreat for the ultimate city-country getaway?

Ojai, California

In addition to Palm Springs, we added another Southern California destination to this list: Ojai. Located in a beautiful valley just 75 miles from Los Angeles, Ojai is well-known as a wellness destination with a spiritual vibe. This is the perfect location to recharge, whether by browsing the charming boutiques, shopping for organic produce at a farmer’s market, taking a quick trip to the beach (the Pacific Ocean is only 15 miles away), enjoying an olive oil tasting, or hiking in the nearby Valley View Preserve.

Aspen, Colorado

We’ve never hosted a ski retreat, but if we did, Aspen would be our first choice. We envision a stay in a private chalet (think less rustic, more luxe) with a private chef; skiing and snowboarding; hot tub soaking; and a night out in town or sitting around the fire back at the chalet. And even if our retreat guests don’t ski, there is always après ski!

Sedona, Arizona

Sedona is a spa and wellness haven that our guests have repeatedly requested for a domestic retreat. Add in Sedona’s art galleries, red rock mountains and canyons, and mystical vibe, and we agree that this is the perfect recipe for a fitness, wellness, and cultural retreat.

Amangiri, Southern Utah

Does anyone else have Amangiri on your bucket list? With its proximity to Grand Staircase, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, and the Grand Canyon, not to mention the actual hotel and spa itself set on 600 acres, the scenery is stunning. While we recognize this may not be feasible for a retreat (hello $3,000+ per night stays!), a girl can dream. Anyone interested in a Fit & Fly “Ultra Luxe” retreat?!

Don’t see the location you are daydreaming about visiting? Shoot us an email at info@fitandflygirl.com with your list!
